Insurance coverage is very situationally dependent. Each policy from each different company will have different levels and types of coverage. The best way to know if your damage is covered is to keep a copy of your policy on hand and call your agent directly with any questions you might have.
Seeing your home damaged is extremely stressful as a homeowner, and it's difficult to know the right course of action. Will trying to clean up on your own help or make things worse? No matter what kind of damage you've incurred, the very first thing you should do is take photographs as long as the area is safe for you to be in. If you have water damage, the best thing to do is extract as much standing water as you possibly can while you wait for help. If you have fans, set them to start drying things as much as possible. They won't be enough to dry the area completely, but they can help to minimize the chance of secondary damage. In the event of mold or fire, it's best to leave the damage alone until a professional can address it. Disturbed mold can disperse spores throughout the home, and fire damages can worsen if improper cleaning techniques are used.
The length of time for proper restoration to occur is dependent on the type and size of the damage. A typical water damage project usually takes 5-7 days to dry and remove any unsalvageable materials. Mold remediation can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the extent of the damage. Fires cause the most extensive damage and can take weeks for restoration to be completed. Keep in mind these are all estimates, and they're only for the restoration portion of the job. The rebuilding portion of the job, where everything is put back into place, has its own separate process and timeline.
Most homeowners' policies cover most water damages, but not all water damages are created equal. There can be a lot of exceptions to coverage depending on the intricacies of your policy. This is why it's a good idea to be familiar with your policy and call your agent immediately when damage occurs.
A good portion of water damage can be prevented by proper household maintenance. Routine plumbing maintenance, sump pump, and appliance maintenance are effective ways to avoid preventable damages. Preparing your home for the winter can also help avoid damage if you live in a cold climate. Finally, it's a good idea to regularly check the exterior of your home, particularly your roof, for damage to ensure water isn't unexpectedly leaking into your home.
Depending on the number of people, pets, and cleaning habits of the rest of the property, the industry recommends having your system cleaned every 10 years. When AmeriClean services your furnace and air duct system, we watch for pre-existing damage, water intrusion, varmint evidence, and air leakage, giving you peace of mind that your system is operating as designed.
Excessive dust in the home. Your HVAC system is not heating or cooling like it used to. Seeing visible accumulation on the vents and registers. Smelling burning or strange odors.

Absolutely! When your system is clogged up, it must run longer to maintain your comfort levels. According to the National Air Duct Cleaner’s Association (NADCA), having your furnace and air ducts cleaned is maintaining it for peak efficiency. This can reduce your heating and cooling costs by 25% or more! A long-term benefit is proper cleaning and maintenance of your system, which will increase its functional lifespan and defer costly equipment replacement.
Depending on the complexity of your system(s), it usually takes two to three technicians most of a day to properly complete a typical residential service.
While there is no need to leave your home during our process, we do ask that you remove any breakables and provide us access to your furnace and registers.

Use the best furnace filters available…the pleated ones. The more pleats, the better. The filters touting “allergen removal” are the best. Change your furnace filter at least every 6 months.
Warning! Failure to change your furnace filter can damage your furnace by restricting airflow. Slowing air flow results in stressing your heat chamber - potentially cracking it and allowing dangerous Carbon Monoxide (CO) gasses to enter your living areas!

Generally, a mold loss is not an emergency. But there are important steps you should take, which will be provided to you on your first call. We will make you a priority and send out an inspector to evaluate the situation.
That could never happen. The second a window or a door opens, hundreds of spores rush inside and begin balancing with the air outdoors. In the indoor and outdoor environment, minute levels of moisture and mold co-exist everywhere. Sometimes, they may grow large enough for us to actually see them.
Yes, you can! If you are not sensitive to mold and the amount of mold isn’t too big (size of a dinner plate), you can probably handle it. Fully protect yourself first. Don’t spray or blow air on mold. Wipe up with a microfiber wrung out in hot water with a little dish detergent in it. If you want, you can add in a little vinegar, but you may have to scrape. Make certain you have found and stopped the reason the mold grew…moisture somewhere! And a big “NO” on bleaching mold.
In accordance with current industry standards, AmeriClean remediates all of the mold to protect your property from the spread of contamination, and then we begin the drying process. Word to the wise: Professional remediators don’t “treat” the mold by spraying chemicals on it. Professionals physically remove the mold.
Mold spores exist everywhere, indoors and out, in building materials, on our clothing, in our food, and settled on the floor. Like tiny seeds, they are patiently waiting until conditions are just right (small plumbing leak) and they begin to establish their territory.
The same factors that cause mold everywhere on earth. Food and water. If you add the right temperature and a little Oxygen, mold really begins to flourish. Mold is necessary for our ecosystem to survive. It is the ultimate recycler.
Make sure you hire an experienced, professional mold remediation firm with the proper insurance policy to cover them for mold work on your property (believe it or not, more than half of all remediation companies don’t have the right coverage…leaving you out in the cold if there is a problem.
Don’t panic, and don’t do anything to spread the contamination. On your first call, you will be provided instructions such as, “Tape over any furnace registers blowing into the room, or turn on the bath vent fan (if the mold is in the bathroom).”
